Actually marching in a demonstration takes longer than 5 minutes, I grant you. But deciding to take the plunge, and reading up, might only take that long. I’m going to say that still counts!

The Women’s March is happening January 21, 2017.

We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families – recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.
Women’s March mission statement

I’ll be joining the march in Austin, Texas. Find a sister march and make your voice heard!

Why do we march?

I’m absolutely positive there are hundreds of essays, articles, and studies about the purpose and effectiveness of various demonstrations. But being a 5 Minute Activist starts with one’s own beliefs, and so I’ll share mine.

We march to do something.

We march to remind ourselves, and everyone else, how many people care about the issue…in this case, our rights, our safety, and our health.

We march not necessarily to change the minds of those in power – although that can and does happen. We march to tell those in power that there’s only so much we will put up with.

We march to be heard.
